Bathroom Refurbishment for Wheelchair Access

We completed a bathroom refurbishment to this Donnybrook home in Queensland, as the current set up did not make allowance for the customer who is wheelchair bound.

We completed a bathroom refurbishment to this Donnybrook home in Queensland, as the current set up did not make allowance for the customer who is wheelchair bound. We were asked to retain the existing bath as there was no fault with it but also to take into consideration a design that still provided an attractive quality for apotential buyer, who might not have a disabled person living in the home, should the owners wish to sale at a later stage. We created a new main entrance into the bathroom from the hallway instead (opposite direction of current setup, opening into bedroom). This way the bathroom would gain more space, not taken up by the swing of the door. The main vanity was quite large, we reduced this in size and added in a lower platform (cavity) alongside to create a potential seated platform, or ability to store items for easy access. The shower area was maximised for better manoeuvrability. The existing shower bed was cut down to be flush with the floor, allowing smooth access in and out of the shower via wheelchair. The owner chose a mat grey tile from Beaumont tiles to give the bathroom a modern warm feel.
